Conflict is essential to drama, but the available scripts for conflict between women are often painfully small. One must envy the other’s beauty, steal her position, compete for romance, or reveal herself as secretly false. The result is movement without much discovery.
“Empowerment does not require spotless behavior.”
An ensemble offers richer arguments. People can disagree about risk, leadership, money, artistic direction, cultural responsibility, loyalty, safety, and the price of success. They can love one another and still hold incompatible answers. That contradiction is not a problem to tidy away; it is where adult friendship becomes dramatic.
Hidden Tide should permit the women to be wrong in different ways. Empowerment does not require spotless behavior. It requires full humanity, meaningful consequence, and the possibility of repair. I am not interested in a crew that never fractures. I am interested in what they build after the easy version of unity is gone.
