The Realm of Hidden Tide is an imagined world shaped by music, maritime history, and women who refuse the maps they inherit. Exotica, the project’s code name, now also names an island within that realm.
The research follows the Sacramento River through the Delta and the Bay into the Pacific, tracing trade, migration, and Chinese maritime craft. Follow that route into the world behind the songs.
